Happy Halloween!

Today I was invited to make Halloween portraits of children at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children in downtown Denver. I was volunteering for Flashes of Hope, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating powerful, uplifting portraits of children fighting cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. The Denver Chapter Director, Betsey Holley put out an email last week looking for a photographer at the last minute and I immediately knew I wanted to do it. I’ve done many of these portrait sessions over the years and I’m always touched by the personalities of kids who are going though hell but want to have their pictures taken.

At the end of the sessions today one young lady dressed as a princess with her little brother in tow, dressed as Batman, came back an asked to have her picture taken with Betsey, dress as a witch, and has worked with many of the children for several years.

Cheers, Kent

It was harvest time for grapes while we were in Italy in September. The afternoon we arrived at Luisa and Luciano’s farm/vineyard in Cerreto Guidi, Tuscany, a local crew was busy harvesting their last load of grapes for the day.

A few days later, I visited our friends Daniele and Elena at Agriturismo La Colombaia, to document their grape harvest. Agriturimoes are both accommodation and working farm. Their winery, Santa Liberata, produces four different wines, including a tasty Chianti. Ten years ago we stayed at La Colombaia for two weeks and became good friends with the family.

During the harvest, Daniele worked with his crew and drove his tractor up and down the rows pulling a trailer. The workers would then hand-pick and fill the trailer with a couple tons of grapes that would then be hauled into town, where the winery is located. Harvesting grapes by hand is a dying tradition, as many of the vineyards are using machines to harvest the grapes, which is much faster, but not selective. Daniele is very picky about only using the best grapes for his wines.

Geri and I actually helped Luisa and Luciano’s family harvest about a ton of grapes in less than two hours. We will publish those pictures in another post about family life on their villa soon. Please check back for several posts from our recent visit, including the wedding of Elisa and Massimiliano in Santa Margherita Ligure.

Ciao, Ken-ta

Patrick and Ashley were married at T-Lazy-7 Ranch near Aspen, Colorado followed by a reception at Viceroy Snowmass.

Chelsea Dillon of Gold Leaf Event Design & Production coordinated their destination mountain wedding and reception with the help of Natalie Antoine.

Reverend Jill Pidcock officiated the ceremony in the upper meadow at T-Lazy-7 Ranch with a spectacular view of Pyramid Peak.

Daniel and Wesley of Braided Films made one on the most honest wedding films I’ve seen.

Congratulations, Kent & Geri
