Wedding Pictures of the Year 2008

Hello and welcome to my Wedding Pictures of the Year 2008 blog post! What an amazing year. I went coast to coast doing weddings from Florida to California.
A huge thank you is in order for all the brides, grooms and their families who chose me to photograph their weddings! Great wedding pictures come from trusting relationships.

POY Slices of Life images from 2007

Hello, this week I've prepared my Slices of Life Pictures for the Year 2007. Wow, what a busy year it was filled with snow storms, memorials, camping, hiking, skiing, concerts and traveling.
It was a difficult year with the death of my father-in-law, Jim Meyers, last March as he was a very special person in our lives. I photographed him so much over the past 15 years and he was always at ease with me. I had no idea until the last few years what a collection of images I had amassed. After preparing a memorial collage for Jim's wife Pat a few years ago, I realized, that Jim had given me a gift and wanted me to continue documenting his life all the way to the grave. If you would like to see a memorial slideshow about Jim Meyers, CLICK HERE: Jim Meyers. If you would like to see a slideshow from Jim's Montana Memorial, CLICK HERE: Jim's Montana Memorial. IF you would like to see Jim's Minnesota Goodbye, CLICK HERE: Jim Meyers Minnesota Goodbye.
These collections of pictures might well be my favorite story of all time.
Every picture tells a story as you can see with my POY 2007 slideshow, CLICK HERE: Pictures of the Year 2007.
Cheers to 2007, a vintage year, Kent

Wedding Pictures of the Year 2007

Happy New Year! It's time for me to reflect on my images from the past year. This is a tradition that goes back to when I made my first portfolio in high school. Looking for the pictures that define my style is a labor of love.
In high school the purpose was to get a scholarship to college. It worked.
In college it was about grades, entering pictures of the year photojournalism contests, and getting my first job.
After graduating and getting my first job, I actually had my first staff job before I even graduated, I would enter annual POY contests and build a better portfolio each year.
Every two or three years I would get a better job because of my improved skills and imagery.
After I finally made it to an A-level newspaper, The Denver Post, I still performed my yearly personal reviews for contests. I managed to win my share of awards year after year.
Then for the first time, the purpose of this review process changed. It became a mid-career/mid-life assessment.
I began focusing more each year on different categories of photojournalism such as sports, hard news, or magazine stories.
When I left the newspaper industry and starting photographing weddings I quit entering the annual contests because there weren't any wedding photojournalism categories. So I would try to get my best weddings each year published in national wedding magazines.
Fast forward to 2007, this year I am doing two POY portfolios, one for weddings and one for my slice of life photography. I am not planning to enter any POY contests this year as my purpose is based on measuring my personal growth. How much fun did I have last year photographing weddings? How much fun did I have photographing personal projects and other jobs? I just finished my Wedding POY today. It was hard to edit my selections down to 120 images because of the blood, sweat and tears that went into each of these weddings. 2007 turned out to be a very good year for both the quality of my work plus I looked forward to every wedding. Please check back soon to see my Slices of Life POY post!
