Kelly and Jake’s Mountain Engagement

The first time I met Kelly and Jake in person was at the top of Loveland Pass on 10-10-10 at 10AM, Seriously. The date and time wasn’t even the crazy part. It was snowing, icy and the wind was gusting around 60 miles and hour. I had been there for about a half hour enjoying a taste of winter and wearing a winter coat, hat and gloves. They jumped out of their 4-Runner without coats, hats or gloves. We shoot pictures for a couple of minutes before heading down to lower elevations and warmer locations ending up in Breckenridge where they are getting married on June 4, 2011 at Ten Mile Station.

Cheers to Kelly and Jake, Kent

Welcome Home

Last week I had a wonderful time photographing one of my wedding couples from 2009. Here is a link to their wedding post. It was a combination welcome home from the war in Afghanistan and an after the fact engagement session. Brandon and Kristin were married last November in Estes Park. Five days after their wedding Brandon shipped out with the Wyoming National Guard. They had wanted to do an engagement session before their wedding but there just wasn’t time. We had talked about doing a session at the Downtown Aquarium, Denver since they both enjoy the ocean.

Kristin came up with a plan to surprise Brandon at the Airport in Denver by having me photograph as his family and friends greeted him arriving in the terminal at Denver International Airport. I really felt like I was a newspaper photographer again as his parents stood holding a University of Wyoming flag welcoming him home for two weeks leave before he goes back to searching for roadside bombs.

A couple of days later we did their belated engagement session at the Aquarium. I love to photograph couples in mind blowing visual locations that also have a personal connection. I feel honored that Kristin asked me to document Brandon’s arrival as well as hanging out with them at the Aquarium.

Jordan and Katie’s Engagement

Last week I had a really fun engagement session photographing Jordan and Katie at different locations in the Platte River Valley before driving out to Daniels Park in Highlands Ranch for sunset.

It was a really hot afternoon so we headed over to the Platte River where they waded into the cool water from a sandy beach. It was hard to believe we were in the city.

Next we went to one of my favorite ice cream vendors, Little Man Ice Cream a few blocks away.

After walking around the neighborhood and back along the river we drove south to Highlands Ranch where Katie grew up. Katie’s always loved Daniels Park where as a kid she remembered seeing buffaloes grazing the hills. I’d never been to this park which is one of the largest parks in the Denver Mountain Park systems. It’s has one of the best views of the front range I’ve ever seen. There were just enough clouds on the horizon to give us a beautiful sunset.
