The 4th of July Weekend in Denver

A man wears an American flag in his hair in Civic Center Park in Downtown Denver.

Happy 4th of July! This was the first weekend I haven’t had a wedding to photograph since April! I made the most out of it going ski mountaineering climbing Coon Hill at 12,757 feet elevation. We were able to skin up to the summit as well as ski down along a cornice ridge passing a herd of mountain goats on Friday. Sat, we went for a 28 mile bike ride that included Lookout Mountain and Mother Cabrini Shrine. Sunday we watch the Tour de France, the men’s final of the Wimbledon, and fireworks with the Colorado Symphony in Civic Center Park with about 25,000 of our closest friends. Today we broke out our new Big Green Egg, grill/smoker, to cook baby back ribs.

Cheers to a free world, Kent

Snowboard World Cup Big Air

Staring down the pipe of a 40 degree 100 foot long ski/snowboard jump as the sun set over Denver and the Rocky Mountains was the perfect place to be yesterday. All I had to do was wait for exactly the right moment and not go sliding head first down the hill into Civic Center Park.

Jordan and Katie’s Engagement

Last week I had a really fun engagement session photographing Jordan and Katie at different locations in the Platte River Valley before driving out to Daniels Park in Highlands Ranch for sunset.

It was a really hot afternoon so we headed over to the Platte River where they waded into the cool water from a sandy beach. It was hard to believe we were in the city.

Next we went to one of my favorite ice cream vendors, Little Man Ice Cream a few blocks away.

After walking around the neighborhood and back along the river we drove south to Highlands Ranch where Katie grew up. Katie’s always loved Daniels Park where as a kid she remembered seeing buffaloes grazing the hills. I’d never been to this park which is one of the largest parks in the Denver Mountain Park systems. It’s has one of the best views of the front range I’ve ever seen. There were just enough clouds on the horizon to give us a beautiful sunset.

Colorado Symphony + Fireworks on 3th of July

Yesterday evening we celebrated the 4th of July watching and listening to the Colorado Symphony playing in Civic Center Park. The highlight of the night was the fireworks show blasting off the roof of the Denver City and County building.

Sidney Poitier in Denver

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing Sir Sidney Poitier while he was in Denver speaking at Unique Lives and Experiences. Listening to Mr. Poitier tell story after story about his life helped me to understand how such a famous actor could be so humble and kind human-being.

During the question and answer part of the program someone asked him what his most important advice was. His response was to take better care of our planet earth. He said “Its the only one we have and it can’t get any bigger”

Cheers to a man who I’ve admired since I was a child watching his movies and now look up to him as a man of great character.
