Donna and Ralph were married September 21, 2013 at their home in Boulder, Colorado.
This was a wedding that almost didn’t happen because of the historic flash floods that washed-away homes, cars, roads and killed eight people, a week before the wedding. The couple needed special permission to have the ceremony on their property, as it was in a closed-off area in. The reception was moved from a tent on their one acre lot to the Hotel Boulderado.
I had looked forward to this wedding all season long, as I don’t often get to photograph weddings in private homes. Plus, Ralph is a professional photographer who really likes documentary-style photography. Three classic photo books were on the coffee table when I arrived, Margaret Bourke-White’s “Moments In History”, “The World of Henri Cartier Bresson”, and a book by Walker Evans. All were amazing black and white documentary photographers. So the challenge was on, to capture personal moments that were truthful and honest.
It was a pleasure getting to know Donna and Ralph as well as their dog Rudy who delivered the actual wedding rings tied to his collar.
