This fall I volunteered for Flashes of Hope photographing cancer kids Colorado at two different hospitals in Denver. First at and then at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children and then at Children’s Hospital Colorado.

Flashes of Hope is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating powerful portraits of children fighting cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

Working with these kids and their families helps me to put my own life into perspective and be great full for my good health. It’s an honor to be able to give each child a few minutes of my time to capture a little bit of their personality.

Recently I volunteered to photograph children with cancer at Children’s Hospital Colorado. It had been more than a year since the program Flashes of Hope was able to do portraits of children and their families because of the concern for spreading colds, flu and other illnesses. Geri and I photographed 13 kids, ages 9 months to 10 years old. Many of the photos needed to be made while the kids were isolated in their hospital rooms.

This was the fourth time I’ve photographed for the Flashes of Hope program, and it’s always a humbling feeling to look deeply into each of these kids’ eyes and do my best to draw out their personalities.

Cheers, Kent
