Last weekend Geri and I went on our annual 10th Mountain Division trip skiing and snowshoeing to the Betty Bear Hut above the Frying Pan Wilderness area near Basalt, Colorado. It was a long and hard (almost) 7-miles up to the cabin at 11,020 feet in elevation. The weather was unbelievably beautiful, snowing most of the weekend with sunlight filtering through the snow and clouds from time to time.
My friend and fellow photographer Steve Peterson, joined our group this year adding not only some great images, but he also turned out to be a talented wood chopper! Rosie, our travel agent friend from Carbondale, who is also a trained chef, planned an amazing group dinner for Saturday night including Filet Mignon with a wild mushroom reduction sauce, couscous with sundried tomatoes, and a side of Green Bean Almondine. For dessert we baked chocolate chip cookies in the wood-burning oven while we played card games.
