Denver Derby Party

Click here to see a short slideshow.

Wow, the Denver Derby Party was a total blast to photograph. My friend, Lee Robinson, asked me to help him cover the event along with his team of photographers. I knew it would be a wild, fashion-themed event finishing off with the Kentucky Derby, but I had no idea how much fun it would be. This year, the party was held at Infinity Park in Glendale, a perfect venue for the party, a fundraiser for a Memorial Scholarship to Colorado State University in the name of Sean “Ranch” Lough who was a CSU student when he died in a mountain bike accident. Several of his friends started a party to remember him 10 years ago and now it’s turned into a huge event drawing as many as 20,000 people wearing Derby attire and festive hats. One of the main events is the Hat Contest. The winning hat sported birds and a bird cage. The minute I saw it, I knew it would be the winner.

Cheers, Kent

A Dixieland Jazz band got the party started.

Sean "Ranch" Lough's mother helped judge the hat contest.

Hat's weren't the only fashionable items on display and many guys sported some cool outfits.

The band Super Diamond, a Neil Diamond cover band, rocked the house before the Kentucky Derby.

The VIP ballroom with huge screens was a great place to the race.
