See a short slide show of our adventure.
A couple of weeks ago we went on our annual 10th Mountain Division hut trip. This year we went to Margys Hut near Aspen with a group of 13 friends. It was a 6.5 mile ski/snowshoe trek and it took us about 5 hours! We used two snowmobiles to haul some of our gear/food/beverages etc. Still, it was a long, hard trip. The snowmobiles even got stuck several times in the deep snow and were tough to dig out.
The weather was perfect; sunny and just warm enough. It was extremely windy on our play day but we managed to go for a nice long ski-hike around the area to take in the amazing panoramic views.
One of my favorite things at these huts is the old-fashioned wood-burning oven/stoves. There are propane gas burners for stove top cooking, but we always plan to bring something that needs baking. This year it was dried fruit Galette, after a dinner of Spanish Rice and coleslaw.
Please remember to watch the slideshow. Several of our hut buddies contributed pictures.
