Sweet Home Alabama! There are few things like being invited to a party in Alabama except going to a series of parties for my step brother’s son’s wedding. Tom and I grew up together spending summers and a few full years together in Huntsville, Alabama. It was mostly our teenage newspaper carrier days and we formed a bond that will last our lifetime. I was honored when Tom and his wife Krista insisted that I photograph Clay and Meghan’s wedding.
The first party was at Tom’s home in Birmingham. He spend the entire day preparing and cooking about 20 racks of baby back ribs for a guys night party during the first round of the NFL draft. Krista and her cousins and extended family ladies were going out for dinner. The draft was particularly interesting because Auburn star Cam Newton was expected to be the number one pick. Not only was he picked first but he was also picked by a southern team, Carolina Panthers. Both Tom and Krista are Auburn alumni and have been season ticket holders for years and Cam helped the Tigers win the national tittle last season.
The rehearsal dinner party was Tom and Krista’s big opportunity to host a party for pretty much everyone who was invited to the wedding. And since they don’t have a daughter and this was their first son’s wedding, they kicked it up a couple of notches from a normal rehearsal dinner. It was a fun night of toasts and dancing before the big event.
